Now that i have relocated battery to the hatch area, im left with a big EMPTY spot where the battery USED to be.

I run NO fender liners, so my filter gets dirty pretty quick. I run a RACTIVE HEAT SHIELD filter(works GREAT!)that seems to cut down on the dirt, ANYWAY.......

Heres where i started thinking, jus use the FIRST part of the AEM piping, turn it a tad and have the filter sit where the BATTERY was! Ok, now HERES the CAI part, if you look closely at your 94up tegs, youll see a "POP OUT" or "KNOCK OUT" in the cowl area above the battery, or under your pass. side wiper, depending on where your looking. I have popped mine out a long time ago, and have removed the rear(not front) rubber seal on the hood(ventilation).

So, anyway, turned the piping to direct into the open battery area, and used a 3 inch piece of the FACTORY INTAKE INTESTINES(resonator box), for reach purposes, and that gave me jus the right angle, and clearence needed to shut the hood, and position it out of the way of everything.

So now when the hood is closed, the "cowl vent" acts as a FRESH AIR SOURCE. I KNOW this works because i went and ran the total piss out of the car testing IT, vs. the NORMAL under hood AEM intake, and NORMAL AEM CAI FILTER LOCATION.

AEM NORMAL LOCATION=car pulls pretty good towards bottom end, but kinda slacks off at top, and the PIPING is ULTRA COLD to the touch(cold air!)

AEM UNDER HOOD LOCATION=car seems to have lost the bottom end, and has the same slacking off as AEM NORMAL LOCATION, PIPING is warm if not HOT after severall runs like i did with the above.

AEM SUPER SHORTY BATTERY/FILTER LOCATION=car seems to have a tad better low end than the UNDER HOOD location, but when i hit 5,000RPM's, WHOA!, RPM needle seems to SHOOT to redline in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. PIPING is ULTRA COLD, jus like the NORMAL AEM CAI FILTER LOCATION. (You can TOUCH the filter from outside the car, through this cowl vent if that gives you any idea of how it gets its COLD AIR)

And a SIDE NOTE(RICEBOYS WILL LOVE)is that the SOUND this INTAKE makes is just plain UNHOLY!!!!!! Keep in mind the FILTER is right in front of the firewall of the passenger. When you crank up in the mornings, it really "SUCKS" literally! You can hear it pretty good. But, the UNHOLY part is 5,000rpms and up in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears.....OH MY GOD!!!!!! The whine is jus ALMOST too loud to talk over!!!!! Im not joking, i LOVE it!

I know i need PIX to back this up, and ill try to snap some soon, the install looks "normal" no zip ties, or crazy stuff, jus GREY AEM piping, with a BLACK filter on it.

Hope this makes sense........i believe i will KEEP this setup!

Yeah, I've heard of this modification a while ago from Shawn Church on vtec.net. He was going to do it but his GSR was stolen. Post those picts, I believe your the first individual to attempt it!

wow, do I have to remove my fender lining to do this? is there anyway to do it without the fender liner?

Uhhhh, TOM, i think you missed the WHOLE point of that POST? The fenderliners have NOTHING to do with ANYTHING. This is for a 94up Integra, but im sure SOMETHING could be done for a civic....

Nice idea. But, would air moving across the hood of your car suddenly dive under the back lip of your hood and flow into the filter? Seems to me that air flow would naturally progress up your windshield. Very interested, post pics when you can.

Oh, NO. By all means this is no RAM AIR setup, its merely a FRESH AIR SOURCE. That allows you to run REAL SHORT intake with CAI intake temps.

Heres a pic of the "VENT" i had taken some time ago, ill get the pix of the INTAKE ASAP.

Interesting point and your logic makes sense.... but believe it or not, the air does NOT just flow up the hood and up the windshield and over.... it actually curls right where the hood gets upto the window...

I dunno if you remember several years back with some American beaters... they used inverted RAM intakes... the hoods had big scoops that faces the driver.... kind of a weird concept but it has some merit...

Well, actually it rained a couple days ago, and i drove the car about 40 miles in the rain, stop and go.....parked the car in the gargage and had no water spots on the filter housing(the heat shield)or any wetness in the vicinity. The only time ive found that you can soak the filter is if you hold the water hose AT the vent when washing the car. Thus i spray water from the FRONT of the hood, and it jus goes over the vent, no water injestion.

The filter sits far enough inside the hood to where if rain fell STRAIGHT down, you still wouldnt get it wet......still, no set backs, and all looks good!
